The foundation's goals require individuals to develop basic literacy in a number of different disciplines such as manfacturing, programming, cultivation of organics, design, among others. The highly specialized nature of skills by modern consumers requires people begin developing the capacity to rise up the value chain from consumer to producer. Fundamental knowledge in critical areas are often non-existant or inadequate to the task.
